    Australian Open Men Betting

2026 will see the 114th iteration of the Australian Open, which is the first tennis Grand Slam of the calendar year.

It will take place between January 12th and February 1st in 2026, at the iconic Melbourne Park in Victoria. The 2025 renewal welcomed over 1.2 million fans through the turnstiles, making it the highest-attended Grand Slam event of all-time.

Of course, the AO men’s singles have been contested since 1905, and it predates the women’s tournament by 17 years. In this guide, we’ll look at the most likely men’s singles winners in 2026, while also appraising some key Australian Open betting trends.

The History of the Australian Open Men’s Singles

The Australian Open is the second oldest tennis Grand Slam, having been inaugurated in 1905. This was 28 years after the first Wimbledon Championship in 1877, while it preceded the French Open by 20 years.

Despite now being contested on acrylic hard courts, the Australian Open was played on grass until 1987. This aided serve-and-volley specialists like Stefan Edberg, who won the final two tournaments played on grass in 1985 and 1987.

Since then, baseliners have dominated at Melbourne, including Serbian star Novak Djokovic. He has won a record 10 Australian Open titles, lifting his first in 2008 and last achieving the feat in 2023. Andre Agassi, who also had excellent defensive skills and liked to dictate from the back of the court, won four titles around the turn of the century.

    Previous Australian Open Winners

Current world number one and hard-court specialist Jannik Sinner is the new dominant force in Australia, having won the title in both 2024 and 2025. It’s also interesting to note that Russian Daniil Medvedev has reached three of the last five Australian Open finals, although he has yet to win the title. Here’s an overview of the past five AO winners and finals:

    YearWinner (Nation)Runner-up (Nation)Score
    2021Novak Djokovic (SRB)Daniil Medvedev (RUS)7-5, 6-2, 6-2
    2022Rafael Nadal (ESP)Daniil Medvedev (RUS)2-6, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4, 7-5
    2023Novak Djokovic (SRB)Stefanos Tsitsipas (GRE)6-3, 7-6, 7-6
    2024Jannik Sinner (ITA)Daniil Medvedev (RUS)3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3
    2025Jannik Sinner (ITA)Alexander Zverev (GER)6-3, 7-6, 6-3

Australian Open Men's Betting Odds - The Players to Watch in 2026

At interwetten, we’ll publish our Australian Open winner betting odds a little closer to the start date. In the meantime, however, we’re going to look at the most likely winners in Melbourne, based on their current form, pedigree and performance on hard courts. Here’s a summary of the top three:

    Jannik Sinner

Current world number one Jannik Sinner has won the previous two Australian Open titles, including a straight sets demolition of the talented Alexander Zverev in the 2025 final. Sinner subsequently reached the French Open final and won his maiden Wimbledon in mid-July, while he has triumphed in 56 of his 62 matches over the last 12 months (90.3%). Over the course of his career, Sinner has excelled on hard courts, winning 216 of his 275 matches on the surface (78.6%). So, in addition to being the defending champion and ATP Tour form player, Sinner also has the weapons to dominate on hard courts.

    Carlos Alcaraz

Despite winning five majors before his 23rd birthday, Carlos Alcaraz has never progressed beyond the quarterfinals in Melbourne. It remains the only Slam event the Spaniard has failed to win so far, while his game appears far stronger on grass and clay than hard courts. To this end, he has a win-rate of 74.9% on hard courts, prevailing in 134 of his 179 career matches so far. His respective win-rates on grass and clay are 88.1% and 81.1%. Still, he boasts an evolving all-court game and is likely to be second favorite once the Australian Open Men's odds are released.

    Novak Djokovic

Now ranked sixth in the world, 10-time Australian Open winner Novak Djokovic has been overtaken by Sinner and Alcaraz in recent months. To this end, he lost to Sinner in the last four of both the 2025 French Open and Wimbledon, while has also been plagued by physical issues during the previous 18 months. However, the AO remains Djokovic’s best chance of claiming a record 25th Grand Slam title, with the Serb having won an incredible 701 of his career 838 matches on hard courts (83.7%). At the Australian Open alone, Djokovic has won 99 of the 109 matches he has contested since 2005 (90.8%).

Key Betting Trends at the Men’s Australian Open

Of course, the 2026 Australian Open Men's Singles odds will also be influenced by key betting trends. Here are some observations that can help to inform your picks and choice of markets.

    • Correct Score Betting Trends: When it comes to correct score tennis betting, the last 10 AO iterations have seen just 21.01% of all completed matches go to a fifth set and end 3-2. Conversely, 45.87% of Australian Open matches during this period have ended in a whitewash, with the majority of these occurring in the first four rounds. Some 33.12% of matches have ended with a 3-1 scoreline.
    • Betting Underdogs are Less Likely to Win Past Round Four: Beyond round four of the Australian Open, betting underdogs have a statistically lower chance of success. In the quarterfinals, for example, underdogs have prevailed just 24.32% of the time in the last 10 AO renewals. This percentage falls to just 5.56% in the semi-finals, while three out of 10 underdogs (30%) have triumphed in a final.
    • Recent Finals Have Either Been Incredibly Close or One-Sided: Five of the last 10 Australian Open finals have been won by a comfortable 3-0 margin, with the other five being fiercely contested and ending 3-2. The last final to be settled after four sets was played out in 2015, when Djokovic defeated Andy Murray 7-6, 6-7, 6-3 and 6-0 in Melbourne.
